What means of transport is best to reach Olivium?

We recommend your own car so you can move around more easily during your stay. Car hire is available at the airports in Pisa (78 km) or Genoa (110 km). Click here to hire a car.
If you arrive by train, you can hire a car in La Spezia. Even though the best way to visit the Cinque Terre is by train, visits to many other places in the area (see Suggested Itineraries) will be easier by car.

Is it possible to take part in the olive harvest?

During October and November the cheerful and hardworking atmosphere at Olivium is inspired by the olive harvest which is carried out entirely by hand so as not to damage the quality of the harvest. Guests can book to take part. At this time of the year it's also possible to organise courses for tasting olive oil, which is at its best when freshly pressed.
In the autumn the vineyards and olive groves perched on the cliffs of the Cinque Terre look even more spectacular.

What places - besides the Cinque Terre - can be easily reached?

The list is never-ending - Lerici, Portovenere, Pisa, Genoa, Lucca, Florence, Parma, with their unrivalled artistic and natural treasures, can all be reached quite easily (20 minutes to 2 hours away).

Yes. We know several local skippers with whom we can organise a day out to the Poets' Bay. Where is the nearest beach?

Olivium is 10 minutes away by car from La Spezia's seafront with its pleasant walk.
However, for a day on the beach we would suggest you go to Lerici, no more than 20 minutes by car, but also possible by public transport.
As an alternative, you could visit the island of Palmaria in front of Portovenere, a 20 minute ferry ride from La Spezia which, as part of the protected regional nature park of Portovenere, has remained unspoilt. It has free public beaches as well as private ones which charge.
More information and ferry timetables are available at Olivium.
